Makonde Family Tree *With Outer Bark - Approx 2ft (22 inches)
Our Family Tree Kinyago is a completely handmade woodcarving. It is an expression of the values of oneness and togetherness shared by members of the Makonde tribe. During the farming season it is common for the community to come together and begin farming on one person's farm until the job is complete for that day, and to then move on to the neighbor's farm the next day. And on and on they go until everyone has worked each other's farms, making the work easier and efficient while maintaining bonds within the community.
May this woodcarving ignite the spirit of togetherness, family and cooperation in your home and work spaces just as they did in ancient times. This is the African Way of Relationships and Intimacy, and it is not simply a relic of our past, but also our destiny.
Uniqueness: This particular design retains the outer bark of the Mpingo tree it is carved from and the naturally forming two-tone colors are clearly distinct. The inner core earns its dark color by age, which expands into a larger ring as the tree matures.
Note: The artifacts are much larger than they appear in the photos.
Shipping: 2-3 weeks, anywhere in the world!
About Design & Sizes: Sizes are approximate because each piece is handmade, and your personal artifact will naturally have a different design than the photos.
